2012: the year it's going to happen!

I remember when Theo and I started The Flying Rooster we already talked about 2012.

First chapter leading up to this year was to find young brilliant composers and performers with an international sound who could make a difference. Our goal: to conquer the territories we think are interesting to break new acts meaning the US, UK and Continental Europe.

Creating a new network of modern business minded companies that could help us to reach our goals together was the second step and launching our amazing artists in 2012 the third.

Building up from scratch take a lot of time and energy, but when you know you found the right talents one day it will all be worth it.

In an era where all the traditonal entertainment companies try to survive, where music is more popular than ever, we decided to invest, innovate and create a new kind of artist development company.

Regular people all over the world decide who’s going to be the next big thing now, so the right Social Media Marketing campaign with fascinating content to interact with them should help us reach the real music lovers. We recorded pure audio and video material, worked with the best producers in the world and are well prepared for what’s ahead of us.

Last year I spent quite some time in London and recently we opened a new office in New York. This was all part of the plan and we can’t wait to press the button now.

The first single of Natalia Jayden will be released next month and then there’s no stopping us.

It’s all about access to the right quality songs and fans will always love to buy a reasonable priced ticket to see their idols live on stage.

We went to Germany, the UK and the US to set up the right base for our releases and on January 18th Natalia will present herself with a fantastic band in the Paradiso (Amsterdam, the Netherlands).

Our other artist Loren Benjamin is working on his debut album now and will be touring the US intensively the upcoming months.

The reactions so far are phenomenal and when you have a chance go see him work the crowd. The moment we will launch his first material this year another new career building artist will be born as well.

Coming Out Of Hibernation

2011 is here and I feel like the prisoner who has finally been released! Or maybe more the older Grizzly bear who is just coming out of hibernation. Why? So often when we hear about a new successful artist somewhere we tend to forget about all the blood, sweat and tears which are spent in the preparation stages of building such an artist.

We started The Flying Rooster company with a mission to find, nurture and bring artists from anywhere but only sign artists with absolute international potential. This has been our goal from the moment we began our search. It automatically means also that you better make sure that all preparations are on an international quality level! And that means having patience which proves sometimes very hard for these young artists but also for us as we would love nothing better than to share our enthusiasm with the world!
So, yes, it might have looked to you that we were in hibernation but believe me, it was very busy in our animal cave. It did not feel like a bear’s life, nor a loud rooster’s but more like a bunch of busy ants.

During last year we have been quietly preparing recordings with our two first ‘very potential’ artists Natalia Jayden and Loren Benjamin.
From the animal cave which we call our headquarters in the heart of Amsterdam we have been selecting songs, deciding on the right sounds, searching and finding the best possible producers, doing co-writes, demo and trial recordings in 4 countries, organize styling and preparing internet presence with the right visuals, audio and video for our artists.

My partner Yigal Fortuin has spent many weeks at the Kensaltown Studios in London where Natalia was recording with producers Martin Terefe and Andreas Olsson. Final mastering has now been completed at Abbey Road on the first 10 selected songs and these will be presented during the next few weeks to a selected number of our international friends in order to find the right partners in the launch of Natalia Jayden.

Loren Benjamin started  further cowriting and recording with various producers, so final music from this young singer and gifted composer will see the light soon during this new year.
So when you wake up some day early in 2011, don’t be surprised by the loud sounds, The Roosters will be screaming!

The Flying Rooster is up and running! The right spirit is there and we are looking forward to the next steps. A lot of people ask me in what way The Flying Rooster operates differently from other international artist development companies? Of course I will not give away all our new ideas regarding how to “make money with a smile” in the entertainment business, but what I can tell you is we have a completely different approach to the market. Combining networks and new digital marketing strategies are the key words. To be able to work so closely together with my partner Theo Roos gives me a lot of positive energy and I’m amazed about his ambition. After all the man has a fascinating track record, so to start a new adventure like The Flying Rooster shows his true dedication and love for the music industry.

We try to be creative and innovative at the same time. I can say there’s a good match between us and the combination of bringing together the healthy elements of the traditional music industry and the new digital opportunities will in my opinion certainly set a new standard in music entertainment. I’m most confident it will bring us success in the nearby future. So just have a brief look on this website once in a while to see what we are up to and don’t forget to try to make every day an interesting one by giving everything you got. Why oh Why?

Many of my business friends were surprised to hear that after an eventful 42-years of music & media business life from which I said goodbye last year, I have decided NOT to stay “in pension” and start a new venture. The answer is very simple; I just LOVE music and I just LOVE the music business. My new company is called The Flying Rooster.

There are also plenty of friends who claim that the present economic climate in the record business and the major problems with all the piracy and illegal file sharing, there just is NO FUTURE !?! That’s a whole lot of B-S. This, my friends, is the best possible time to start a new initiative, because, out of the present situation of industry chaos there will be new business models created which will result in an even more vibrant, creative, innovative music scene and... I want to be PART OF IT!!!  And..I am not alone. My partner Yigal Fortuin may be much younger than I am, but had his good share of artist management experience with the acts Within Temptation and Silkstone as well as being involved in various Media and Internet start-ups. The guys from Fortress Music (www.fortressmusic.com) will organize the European Internet and Street marketing for our artists.

In the early Eighties, when I started my company The Flying Dutchman, record label times were difficult (just remember Polygram having to sell-off their entire music publishing business in order to stay afloat). It proved for me to be a very successful time with The Flying Dutchman, the launch and building of the Music & Media European radio trade magazine, with Billboard, The International Music & Media conferences in Montreux and Amsterdam and BPI. To work on the European careers of giants like Phil Collins, Genesis, Stevie Nicks, Shalamar and many others was a real honor. And that all took place in also a difficult economic climate.

The time we live in now is probably the most exciting time for entrepreneurs to take part in the global music business evolution and the birth of a new music world order... Sure, the international major record companies are in the midst of coping with the biggest and most fundamental changes they ever experienced. They are reforming. And it is a terrific time for new independents who are involved in all aspects of an artists career. Music is more popular than ever and there are many new ways to be involved and be successful. Our aim with our artists is to create the best music, the best visuals, the best performances, the best events, the best promotion skills, the best representation, the best exploitation of their rights, the best business opportunities and the best partnerships.
